Griha Pravesh, the first entry into a newly built house, is a momentous occasion in Vastu Shastra. This ceremony marks the beginning of living in your new home at an auspicious moment, chosen based on astrological considerations. It is a holistic event, performed to keep negative forces at bay and invite positive energies into your home. The rituals of Bhumi Poojan (land acquisition prayer) and Vaastu-Shanti (housewarming ceremony) are essential steps in this sacred journey. At an auspicious moment, your Grihya Pravesha ceremony commences. A Ganapati puja invokes blessings, and a mandala is drawn to invite the gods and nine planets as witnesses. As a family, you carry the havan kunda (fire pot) into each room, filling the air with purifying smoke that disinfects and cleanses. To safeguard your home from evil influences, threads are circled thrice from the east, the most auspicious direction. Accompanied by the Rakshoghna Mantra and the Pavamana Mantra, these rituals create protective barriers around your home. A pit is dug in the South-East corner, fortified with cow dung paste, and worshipped. It is then filled with a brick box containing corn, moss, and flowers, symbolizing prosperity and fertility. The final step of Grihya Pravesh is sprinkling holy water around the house, warding off evil spirits and purifying the environment. With these sacred rituals, you have completed your Griha Pravesh.
On any auspicious day, one may attempt to enter a house made of grass, leaves, etc. The initial entry into a house made of bricks, stone, mud, cement, etc. is lucky when the sun is Uttarayan. It will be fortunate if you can complete the Graha Pravesh solely on this day. Normally, you can perform it at any favorable time of day or night. In the case of Graha Pravesh in an old refurbished house, it does not matter whether Guru (Jupiter) or Shukra (Venus) is set (invisible).

Besides these, the months of Kartik and Margshirsh give medium results. The tithies (dates) 4/9/14 and 30 (Amavas – no moon night) should be avoided and Graha Pravesh should not be done on Tuesdays.
